I will be introducing Shikko (knee-walking), Suwari-waza (floor techniques), and Hanmi-Handachi (floor-to-standing techniques). These techniques are a vital part of Aikido training as they help to develop a strong center of balance. Q: What is Gregory Soon Aikido? A: Traditional Aikido training in a modern and informal setting: Gregory's Aikido classes incorporate traditional training conducted in a friendly atmosphere with a backdrop of upbeat music to accompany the relaxed training environment. Classes are small and individual attention is given to all students. A dogi (uniform) is not required, classes are offered on a drop-in basis, no monthly fees or contracts. Traditional Aikido is a training method developed by Morihei Ueshiba Sensei that develops Physical, Mental, and Breath Awareness through martial art training. Aikido is sometimes called "the way of harmony" because of its fluid and graceful movements, but beneath the surface Aikido movements are extremely powerful: incorporating breath-power, focused-mental power, along with physical power. A person who has mastered Aikido movement is capable of controlling the power and strength of an attacker who may be much larger, faster and stronger than him or herself.
