Information on Aikido with Gregory Soon:

What Is Aikido?

Aikido is an un-armed martial art & self-defense method derived from Japanese Daito-Ryu Aiki-jujitsu. Gregory Soon offers a modern & eclectic approach to Aikido training.

Aikido, literally translated, means "Way of Unifying Energy". The concept of Aiki as it relates to martial art training though, is basically the idea of attacking the opponent at his weakest point. In martial arts such as Judo this is also referred to as "Kuzushi", or, off-balancing/unbalancing.

Gregory Soon's focus in on effectively utilizing kokyu, your extension, in order to create Aiki, the weak point into which the opponent enters.

Gregory utilizes scenario-based-partner-training and attacks that you will encounter in every-day-situations, rather than traditional form & kata.

Aikido is not a competitive sport or a competitive martial art form. Aikido techniques are based on fighting methods and techniques and can definitely be used in combat and for self-defense. But Aikido training as conducted in a dojo (training hall), is not based on learning or teaching fighting methods to defeat an opponent. There is no sparring or competition in Aikido.

Is Aikido Right For Me? This is a very subjective question and can only be answered by observing or trying out a Aikido classes. If you have had experience in another martial art style, you will have no issues starting Aikido training.
I Do Not Recommend Aikido training for anyone with chronic knee problems, back problems, or any other recurring joint problems.
Feel free to schedule an appointment to view a class.

One of my goals is to return martial arts training back to its origins and roots; in which the training was the purpose of the art. We train to perfect our spirits as ancient warriors did to purify their spirits before battle (with the intention of dying in battle).

Martial Character: The Essence of "Budo": A martial artist understands that "belts", rankings and certifications are not the measure of one's character; that the true measure of a person's character is how they live their lives, take care of their minds and bodies, carry themselves in society and how they treat those around them.
